Day 31 – Grammar Rules Tested by Sense Questions

-Idiom (proper word form and choice)

~Idiom = using words in a peculiar way; idioms are easy to recognize for native speakers: fall head over heels,      darken the door, hit the nail on the head, etc.

~Many idiomatic phrases can only be recognized by ear

-Pronouns

~It should be clear what a particular pronoun is referring to; if it is not clear, it needs to be revised

~The story even reached the ears of Richard Steele, who featured it in his periodical, The Tattler. Eventually, he      became the subject of a best-selling book…

~The pronoun “he” seems to refer to “Richard Steele,” but it is in fact supposed to refer to someone else      mentioned earlier in the passage.

Day 32 – 10 Algebra and Coordinate Geometry Questions

1.Evaluate an algebraic expression.

     If x = -2, then x2 + 5x – 6 = ?

2.Multiple binomials.

     (x + 3)(x + 4) = ?

3.Factor a polynomial.

     What is the complete factorization of x2 – 5x + 6?

4.Simplify an algebraic fraction.

     For all x ≠ ± 3, x2 – x – 12 / x2 – 9 = ?

5.Solve a linear equation.

     If 5x – 12 = -2x + 9, then x = ?

Day 33 – 5 Steps for ACT Reading

Day 34 – 5 Steps for ACT Science

Step 5: Match Your Answer with One of the Choices

-After paraphrasing, match your answer with one of the choices

-Double-check the question to make sure you’ve actually answered the question asked

-Many of the questions are reversal questions: look for works like NOT and EXCEPT

Day 35 – 4-Step Method for the Essay

Step 3: Produce

-Appearances count: It will make a better impression if you fill up a majority of the space

     -Write neatly!

     -Use transitions
